19/March/2016 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 16-01667 – A Smoaks business was destroyed in an afternoon fire that spread from a previous yard debris fire Saturday afternoon 19-March. A 18:02, a caller reported a trash fire that had gotten out of control at 664 Buckhead Road in a rural community in northwestern Colleton County. The caller reported the fire had spread to a large pile of tires near a tire shop. Stations 7 and 18 responded to the incident. The caller called back 13 minutes later to report the building was now involved. The incident was upgraded to a Structural response. Engine 7 arrived to find the building, several vehicles, woods, brush and large pile of tires burning. A second alarm was issued to bring additional Tenders and personnel. ARFF 19 was also assigned to the incident for its foam capabilities but was not used. Engine 7 deployed multiple handlines and was supplied by Tenders shuttling water for the firefighting effort. Units were on the scene for three hours. No injuries were reported during the incident. Friends of the owners have established a Go Fund Me account to assist with reconstruction efforts. There was no insurance on the facility.

Engine 7, Engine 15, Engine 26, Tender 4, Tender 7, Tender 15, Tender 17, Tender 18, Tender 23, Tender 26, Medic 18, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and ARFF 19 responded.
