12/May/2016 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 16-02912 – A 63 year old man received multiple traumatic injuries after his motorcycle collided with a car that had stopped on ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) at the intersection of Ivenia Brown Road Thursday evening 12-May at 22:04. Witnesses advised the passenger car stopped in the travel lane on the dark rural highway. The southbound motorcycle struck the back of the car causing heavy damage to both vehicles and ejecting the motorcycle driver. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and began treating the man for his life threatening injuries. He was rapidly transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 6 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston with additional personnel on board to assist with his care. The female driver of the car was transported by Medic 13 to Colleton Medical Center. Traffic on ACE Basin Parkway was blocked for over two hours and detoured to Green Pond Hwy while the SC Hwy Patrol conducted their investigation.

Engine 6, Medic 6, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Asst. Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
