25/May/2016 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift Incident # 16-03188 – A 46 year old Varnville woman was
critically injured after her vehicle collided head-on with a loaded log
truck on Sniders Hwy. (SC Hwy 63) at Schoolhouse Road. The accident occurred
Wednesday afternoon, 25-May at 14:28. Another tractor trailer was also
involved. The Chevrolet pickup suffered heavy damage and caught fire with
the woman inside. The truck driver used a portable fire extinguisher to
douse the flames, while bystanders pulled the woman from the wreckage. Their
quick actions contributing to saving her life. Several bystanders comforted
the woman until rescuers arrived. Firefighter-Paramedics found the woman
lying on the ground between the two vehicles. She suffered multiple life
threatening traumatic injuries. Crews rapidly immobilized her, then
transported her emergent by Fire-Rescue Medic 18 to the Trauma Center at
Trident Medical in Summerville. Additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisted
with her care during transport. The truck driver and a 13 year old boy in
the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries and denied ambulance
transportation to the hospital. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the
crash. Engine 8, Engine 18, Medic 1, Medic 18, Rescue 1,
Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105 and Car 107 responded. Battalion Chief Scott
O’Quinn served as Incident Commander. |
