10/August/2016 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift Incident # 16-05166 – An adult male received life
threatening injuries after his vehicle crashed into the wooded median on
Interstate 95 near the 56 mile marker, Wednesday morning 10-August at 01:33.
The southbound Mercedes lost control at a high rate of speed, entered the
median and struck several trees. The car then overturned trapping the
driver. Battalion 1 arrived to find the vehicle with heavy damage, down an
embankment on its side. Fortunately another motorist witnessed the accident
occur, because the car was not visible from the roadway. The driver was
conscious, but suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics
stabilized the car, then used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the roof. The
patient was extricated with full spinal precautions, then rapidly
transported to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was stabilized and
later transferred to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville.
The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 26, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12
responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident commander. |
