13/August/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift Incident # 16-05255 – Firefighters saved a Cottageville
home early Saturday morning 13-August. At 02:59, 9-1-1 received a report
from the homeowner that the residence was on fire. Engine 9 arrived at 11408
Cottageville Hwy. to find heavy charged black smoke coming from the eaves on
all sides of the building with flames visible from the roof at the rear of
the single story wood frame structure. Crews deployed two 1-3/4 handlines
and found most of the fire was in the attic. Access to the attic was
limited, but firefighters pulled the tongue and grove ceiling in several
areas to extinguish the flames. The fire originated in a trash can in a
small bathroom and burned through a wall. The balloon frame construction
allowed the fire to quickly extend into the attic. Most of the fire damage
was contained to the attic over the bathroom and a large closet, where the
roof was burned away. The interior of the home suffered light smoke damage
and most belongings were saved. Water supply was conducted with Tenders.
Firefighters were on the scene for four hours. All occupants were able to
safely exit the building and no injuries were reported.
Engine 9, Engine 34, Tender 1, Tender 2, Tender 9,
Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded.
Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander. |
