Colleton County Fire-Rescue
10/05/2016
10/05/2016 - Governor Nikki Haley has ordered
evacuations of Coastal South Carolina including Zone A of Colleton County
due to the approach of Hurricane Matthew. This includes anyone south
of the CSX railroad as well as all mobile homes and other floodplain areas
in the County. To verify the zone for your home or business, click
here and scroll down to
the map. Type in your address in the "Find address or place" box and
the map will display the address and zones. Click
here for evacuation information and click
here for information
from S.C. Emergency Management Officials on what is needed for a family
emergency kit. If you are in an area that is included in the Governor
ordered evacuation, please heed the warnings and leave now. If you
stay, you will have limited access to fire, rescue, police, and emergency
medical services until well after the storm has passed. Colleton
County's evacuation shelter opened today at 3:00 PM at Colleton County
Middle School (1379 Tuskegee Airmen Drive, Walterboro, SC 29488). This
facility can provide food and shelter for the duration of the storm.
Pets are not allowed at the shelter, but they can be cared for by the
Colleton County Animal Shelter if the animal has been vaccinated against
rabies (you must bring verification documentation with the animal). Edisto Beach / Island Residents - Edisto Island is being evacuated and fire, rescue, police, and emergency medical services will not be available (in addition to perhaps power) after tomorrow afternoon. You are strongly urged to evacuate now. If you are not in the evacuation zone, please prepare your home for extended power outages and delays in the response of fire, rescue, police, and emergency medical services. Call 9-1-1 for Emergencies Only! Do not call 9-1-1 to report power outages or for non-emergency issues. If you lose power, remember to keep electric generators OUTSIDE and away from any open windows or doors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Also, do not burn charcoal indoors. |
