16/October/2016 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift Incident # 16-06806 – While units were combating a
Structure fire on Drain Road, a second fire was reported at 906 Sunrise Road
at the migrant camp, the former Smoaks Middle School at 02:17. 9-1-1 had
some difficulty with a language barrier from Spanish speaking male reporting
the building was on fire. Tender 23, who was shuttling water for the Drain
Road fire had just refilled with water in Smoaks and was passing the
location when the fire was reported. Tender 23 and Tender 7 stopped at the
migrant camp and found a wooden covered walkway and the front of a mobile
building was on fire. Firefighters deployed one handline and quickly
extinguished the fire. The fire appears to have started on a sofa located on
the walkway. No one at the location could provide any information about the
incident. Units cleared up after about 30 minutes and continued to shuttle
water for the other fire. Tender 7, Tender 23 and Car 111 responded. Lt. Janet Laney served as Incident Commander. Photos by Harold Buzzell |
