31/October/2016 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 16-07147 – Four people were injured in a three vehicle collision on I-95 near the 48 mile marker southbound, Monday morning 31-October at 04:36. A southbound tractor trailer struck the rear of a slower moving tractor trailer causing heavy damage to the big rigs. A southbound Mini-Cooper then collided with the rear of the second trailer causing heavy damage to the small car. The driver of the small Cooper was able to swerve at the last second. The driver avoided driving under the trailer, but the entire driver’s side of the Cooper was ripped from the car. The collision caused an approximately 300 yard fuel spill on the highway. The debris field of auto body and engine parts littered the highway. Firefighter-Paramedics treated four adults for non-life threatening injuries. One required ambulance transportation to Colleton Medical Center. SCDOT also responded. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Captain Matt Parler served as Incident Commander.
