28/November/2016 – MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac – “B” Shift

Incident # 16-07830 – Four people were injured in a high speed single vehicle collision on I-95 at Exit 53 Monday morning 28-November at 09:40. The 2005 Dodge Pickup Truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The truck crossed both travel lanes and entered the ditch just south of the overpass where it skidded sideways and began to flip over. The truck rolled at least three times landing upright in the grass field between the highway and the exit ramp. The truck suffered heavy damage. A 17 year old male sleeping in the rear seat was ejected. He landed nearly 75 feet from the truck and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. The youth was quickly treated at the scene, then transported emergent by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. An adult male front seat passenger was trapped in the wreckage. He suffered life threatening traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him in the vehicle while other crewmembers used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger side door. A medical helicopter was requested and LifeNet 4 flew to the scene. The man was extricated with spinal precautions and loaded directly onto the helicopter. He was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. An 11 year old female and the adult female driver, were both transported to Colleton Medical Center in Fire-Rescue Medic 104. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Engine 27, Medic 1, Medic 26, Medic 104, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 111 and Car 117 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
