30/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift Incident # 16-07906 – Quick action by a neighbor slowed
the advance of a fire in a home at 1732 George Warren Drive in the Town of
Williams, Wednesday evening 30-November at 20:54. Callers to 9-1-1 reported
smoke coming from the home. Flames were visible from the rear of the
structure from the area of a bathroom. A neighbor broke the rear window and
used a garden hose to spray water into the room slowing the advance of the
fire. Firefighters arrived minutes later to find smoke coming from the eaves
of the single story residential building. Crews deployed one 1-3/4 handline,
forced entry through the front door and quickly knocked down the fire which
was contained to the bathroom. The home was being renovated and the owner
had performed plumbing work in the bathroom wall earlier in the evening.
They had used a torch to sweat copper pipes joints which evidently caused
the surrounding wood to smolder. The fire, which started in the lower
portion of the wall, spread up the wall and across the ceiling. Damage was
isolated to the bathroom and smoke damage was minimal. Fire units were on
the scene for an hour. Engine 4, Engine 7, Engine 18, Engine 23, Tender 1,
Tender 7, Tender 18, Tender 23, Tender 26, Battalion 1, Medic 18, Medic 26,
Car 12, Car 118 and Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served
as Incident Commander. |
