19/February/2017 – Commercial Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 17-01117 – A 22:03, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at the Dollar General Store located at 11051 Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) Sunday evening 19-February. Engine 9 arrived to find the building full of smoke and dark black smoke coming from the front doors and extending across the ceiling. Due to the size of the building in a non-hydranted area, a second alarm was issued for Tenders and personnel. Firefighters began searching the building, but found no extension in the ceiling or storage rooms. Using thermal imaging cameras interior crews found a heat source behind a large beverage refrigeration unit near the front of the store. Several firefighters moved the unit away from the wall and found the compressor unit had burned, damaging the unit and a portion of the wall behind the refrigeration unit. The fire damage was isolated to the area of origin, however smoke damage and soot was throughout the store. Firefighters used PPV fans to ventilate the structure. Staging of Tenders was set up across the street at the BP gas station. No injuries were reported during the incident.
