26/February/2017 – Woods and Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 17-01289 – Colleton Firefighters were kept busy Sunday afternoon with multiple woods fires, some that spread to vehicles or buildings. Firefighters prevented the flames from reaching several homes, however one home, a storage building and a truck at three different locations were destroyed. Fire-Rescue was on scene at seven different fires were between 13:30 and 16:00. County firefighters and Forestry Commission tractors spent hours containing the fires. The worst incident spread from a yard debris fire and reached a mobile home before 9-1-1 was notified. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Cyrus Lane north of Green Pond at 14:37. Engine 6 arrived to find a singlewide mobile approximately 50% involved and a rapidly moving woods and grass fire that was endangering two other nearby homes. Firefighters requested a second alarm for additional personnel and apparatus, then deployed multiple handlines to protect the unburned homes. Both structures were saved, however the singlewide mobile home was completely destroyed. The residents lost all of their belongings, but no one was injured. Units were on the scene at Cyrus Lane for five hours.

Cyrus Lane - Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 6, Tender 2, Tender 6, Tender 8, Tender 13, Tender 22, Tender 25, Tender 27, Tender 2203, Brush 6, Medic 6, Medic 13, Medic 106, Battalion 1, Car 107 and Forestry responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
