Colleton County Fire-Rescue
06/12/2017
12/June/2016 – Life Saving Awards The Fire-Rescue Commission recognized three employees for
a recent successful resuscitation. Last month, a citizen realized an
employee at one of the County solid waste sites was having a medical
emergency and alerted 9-1-1. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station # 19
arrived a few minutes later and began evaluating the man. While moving him
to the ambulance, the man became unconscious and stopped breathing. Crews
immediately began CPR. The cardiac monitor showed V-Fib, so the crew
defibrillated the man one time and got a return of a sinus rhythm. The
patient was intubated, then transported emergent a short distance to
Colleton Medical Center. He was extubated and regained consciousness in the
ED, before being transferred to Trident Medical Center. The man survived and
was later discharged from Trident without deficient. Firefighter-Paramedic
Zack Huber, Firefighter-Paramedic Mike Duffy and Firefighter-EMT Will
Worrell were presented with a certificate of Life Saving and uniform pin by
Fire-Rescue Commission Chairman LaVern Polk and Chief McRoy during the
monthly Commission meeting at Headquarters. |
