16/June/2017 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift Incident # 17-04095 – At 23:39, Friday 16-June, a small
SUV left the roadway on Red Root Road at the intersection of Bethel Road,
overturned and struck a tree trapping the driver. The adult male was pinned
inside the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics found the SUV upside down at the
wood line with heavy damage to the front of the car. The roof over the
driver was crushed down to the dash. Crews deployed Holmatro Rescue Tools,
but were able to force open a rear door using a pry bar. They began treating
the man inside the car before extricating him with spinal precautions. He
suffered multiple traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was placed on
standby and Medic 18 transported the man emergent to the helipad at Colleton
Medical Center to meet with C.A.R.E. Flight. He was transferred to the
flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC
Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 18, Medic 18, Rescue 1, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and
Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander. |
