Colleton County Fire-Rescue will conduct pre-employment testing November 15-17, 2017.  We are seeking candidates for six Firefighter / Firefighter-EMT positions and three Firefighter/Paramedic positions (see job advertisement below).  Interested parties can apply by emailing your resume and supporting documentation to jobs@colletoncounty.org or submit applications at the nearest S. Colleton County (S.C.) Fire-Rescue is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Firefighter, Firefighter/EMT, and Firefighter/Paramedic.  Colleton County Fire-Rescue is an all-hazards, full-service department serving approximately 40,000 people in over 1,100 square miles from 35 fire stations utilizing a staff of 93 full-time, 10 part-time and 125 paid-on-call volunteer firefighters with an annual call volume of more than 8,500.  Fire-Rescue operates a fleet of 129 vehicles including 36 engines, 34 tenders, 12 ALS ambulances, 2 E-One 95’ Platforms, 2 Heavy Rescues, 2 Hazardous Materials Units, and 1 ARFF truck.  Colleton County also provides Firefighter/Flight Paramedics to C.A.R.E. (Colleton Air Rescue Evac) Flight, a fully-integrated community based air medical program with Med-Trans Corporation that delivers skillful care and rapid transportation to the acutely ill and severely injured throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina. 

Colleton County is located on the beautiful coast of South Carolina and offers excellent hunting and fishing opportunities including two state wildlife management areas, as well as one of the longest (21 miles) black water rivers in the country encompassing the Edisto River canoe and kayak trail.  Additionally, Edisto Beach, a barrier island and one of the few uncommercialized, family-oriented beaches in the country, is in the southeast portion of Colleton County.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties including emergency response, medical transports, vehicle extrications, firefighting, vehicle and station maintenance, equipment testing and fire prevention activities. Position requires a thorough knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical care. Applicants must be dependable, of good moral character, be in good physical condition; be able to work under highly stressful conditions and have the ability to work well with others.

REQUIREMENTS: One year firefighting experience with a volunteer or career fire department and minimum certification as an IFSAC Firefighter I with the ability to acquire IFSAC Firefighter II within six months of employment (Pro Board also accepted). Must be certified by the National Registry as an EMT or Paramedic (Firefighter II ONLY candidates must obtain EMT certification from the NREMT within one year of hire date). Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record at time of employment. Class “E” Driver’s License or better within 1 month of employment, clear criminal history, High School diploma or G. E. D. /equivalent. Applicants must provide a 10-year driving history with the application. Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and a satisfactory background check is also required. Paid monthly In-Service Training. Over-time rate applied after 40 hours worked each week.

  • MINIMUM HOURLY RATE (FIREFIGHTER II ONLY): $11.41
  • ESTIMATED ANNUAL SALARY (FIREFIGHTER II ONLY): $31,742.62 – $32,632.60 (includes scheduled time only [no deductions for meal or sleep times] – excludes extra overtime opportunities). *Assigned to D-shift
  • MINIMUM HOURLY RATE (FIREFIGHTER II/EMT): $12.74

  • ESTIMATED ANNUAL SALARY (FIREFIGHTER II/EMT): $43.468.88 – $45,456.32 (includes scheduled time only [no deductions for meal or sleep times] – excludes extra overtime opportunities). **Assigned to 24/48 hour shift

  • MINIMUM HOURLY RATE (FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC): $17.84/hour
  • ESTIMATED ANNUAL SALARY (FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC): $60,870.08 – $63,653.12 (includes scheduled time only [no deductions for meal or sleep times] – excludes extra overtime opportunities).
