17/July/2017 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift Incident # 17-04909 – An adult female was critically
injured in a single car MVC on Interstate 95 at 65 mile marker Monday
morning 17-July at 11:06. The northbound Mercedes left the roadway at a high
rate of speed and entered the median. The car struck a culvert, became
airborne and flipped over several times before coming to rest upright
blocking the southbound lanes. The car suffered heavy damage. The restrained
male driver received multiple non-life threatening injuries. The restrained
female passenger suffered multiple life threatening injuries and was in
critical condition at the scene. One additional ambulance and a medical
helicopter were requested, however due to heavy rains in the area, the
helicopter had to decline the flight. The female patient was transported
emergent in Medic 26 with additional personnel on board, to the Trauma
Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston. The male patient was
transported by Medic 19 to Colleton Medical Center, but was later
transferred to Trident. The southbound lanes of I-95 near the accident were
blocked for an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with traffic control. Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1,
Car 105, Car 110 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served
as Incident Commander. |
