12/Augusta/2017 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift Incident # 17-05562 – At 01:27, Saturday morning
12-August, 9-1-1 received a report of a car off in the woods in the 4200
block of Red Oak Road north of Rebel Lane. The caller reported the car
struck a tree and a female patient was trapped inside.
Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find a Nissan Altima down in the swamp
against a tree. Crews found the woman unresponsive and not breathing. They
were able to quickly remove her from the car and began resuscitative
efforts. She was transported emergent to Colleton Medical Center with
additional personnel on board to assist in her care. The patient was
pronounced deceased shortly arriving at the ED. Apparently the vehicle was
southbound on Red Oak Road and dropped off of the right shoulder in a curve
after passing Spotted Horse Drive. The car left the road a second time, over
corrected and lost control, then struck a guard rail before crossing to the
northbound side of the road, entered the swamp and hit a tree head-on. The
car received heavy damage. The road in the area of the accident was closed
for approximately two hours while the SC Highway Patrol investigated the
crash. Engine 9, Medic 9, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118
responded. Firefighter Steve Pelton served as Incident Commander. |
