01-September-2017 / MVC with Air Evac / “C” Shift Incident # 17-06047 – A 26 year old male was severely
injured after his pickup truck left the roadway and struck a large pine tree
Friday afternoon 01-September. At 12:57 Fire-Rescue units were sent to the
4900 block of Black Road, west of Edward Road. Units arrived to find the
pickup truck with heavy damage stuck on the tree stump. The force of the
impact, splinted the pine tree and broke the trunk approximately three from
the ground. The male driver was conscious and suffered traumatic injuries.
Crews used hand tools to extricate him from the vehicle. The C.A.R.E. Flight
medical helicopter was placed on standby at Colleton Medical Center. The
patient was quickly treated at the scene, then rapidly transported to the
CMC helipad with additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board assisting with
patient care. He was transferred to the Flight Crew and flown to the Trauma
Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol
is investigating the crash. Engine 13, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 107 and
Car 112 responded. Assistant Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident
