09/September/2017 – Woods Fire – “A” Shift Incident # 17-06252 - Approximately 5 acres of woods was
destroyed in the 3500 block of Mt. Nebo Road near Ashton, Saturday afternoon
09- September, when a tractor and disc harrow clipped a guide wire causing a
power pole to break. The power lines fell on the tractor and due to arching,
started a brush fire. Brisk winds quickly spread the flames into a nearby
field of planted pines. At 13:31, Fire-Rescue was notified. Engine 23
arrived to find a fast moving woods fire well off the roadway. Fire-Rescue
units were unable to gain access and requested assistance from the SC
Forestry Commission. The property owner used a bulldozer and his son
used a farm tractor to cut fire breaks. The Forestry Tractor also assisted.
After about 45 minutes the fire was contained. Engine 23, Brush 23 and Medic 18 responded. Capt Doug
Mixson, Jr. served as Incident Commander. |
