08/October/2017 – Fatal MVC with partial ejection – “A”
Shift Incident # 17-06994 – A Summerville man died in a
single car MVC in the 3900 block of Peirce Road just south of McDanieltown
Road Sunday night 08-October. At 19:11, witnesses notified Colleton 9-1-1
Dispatchers that a pickup truck had left the roadway and overturned. They
were not able to reach the man, but advised that he appeared not to be
breathing. Fire-Rescue Medic 9 arrived minutes later and found the white
ford pickup truck upside down in the ditch. The unrestrained driver had been
partially ejected. The truck had landed on the man trapping him under the
roof of the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics determined he no signs of life
and notified the Coroner’s Office who responded to the scene. After the
Coroner completed his investigation, personnel positioned a pickup truck at
the wood line to allow for the winch to be used to stabilized the truck. Box
cribs were erected so Holmatro High Pressure Air Bags could be placed on
each side of the cab to lift the truck. The truck was carefully raised about
18 inches to free the man. He was transported to Colleton Medical Center by
the Coroner’s Office. Peirce Road in the area of the accident was closed for
two hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 34, Medic 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 27, Car
112 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter Steve Pelton served as Incident
Commander. |
