20/October/2017 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift Incident # 17-07258 – While westside units were
battling a structure fire on Community Ave. north of the Town of Smoaks, a
second structure fire was reported at 562 Durango Lane north of Cottageville
on the east side of the county. 9-1-1 Dispatchers were notified of the
incident at 19:11 on Friday evening 20-October. Engine 9 arrived to find
heavy fire conditions in the doublewide mobile home. Flames had already
broken through the roof and a portion of the roof over the kitchen was
collapsed. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to the
building as Engine 9 used a deckgun to knock down the flames. Firefighters
entered the structure through the front door and quickly gained control of
the blaze, stopping the flames in the middle of the building. The rooms on
the southside of the structure received smoke damage, but many personal
items were saved. The fire started on the stove when a pan of grease
ignited. The homeowner quickly ushered everyone outside of the home, then
returned to extinguish the flames, but the fire had spread to the cabinets
and into the attic space. No one received any injuries. Fire units were on
the scene for several hours. The family was displaced and the Red Cross is
assisting them. Engine 9, Engine 34, Tender 9, Tender 17, Tender 19,
Tender 36, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded.
Firefighter-EMT Cody Hutto served as Incident Commander. |
