17/November/2017 – Equipment Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 17-07905 – A night watchman at the Warren Lumber Mill in Williams averted a potentially dangerous fire Friday morning 17-November. At 03:34, the watchman was making his rounds, when he discovered a fire under the Mill House near the conveyor system. He alerted 9-1-1 sending County Firefighters to the large facility in the rural Town of Williams. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from piles of saw dust under the conveyor system, which is located under a building. Crews used one 1-3/4 handline to knock down the fire, then used shovels and rakes to remove over two feet of saw dust from under the conveyor system. The saw dust was thoroughly doused with water as it was removed. Firefighters were on the scene for close to an hour. Had the fire not been found by the watchman, the flames could have rapidly spread through the facility and nearby lumber causing considerable damage. Fortunately there was no fire extension.

Engine 7, Engine 18, Engine 23, Tender 7, Tender 18, Tender 26, Tender 27, Squad 23, Medic 18, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 117. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served as Incident Commander.
