18/November/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-07947 – Four people received injuries in a single car MVC near the 600 block of Poplar Street Saturday evening 18-November. At approximately 22:42 a northbound passenger car left the roadway in a curve and struck the embankment causing the car to flip backwards and land in the ditch. All of the doors were blocked by the ditch walls. Three children, ages 2, 5 and 8 were riding in the back seat and suffered minor injuries. The female driver received more substantial injuries and complained of extreme pain when crew attempted to remove her from the car. A second ambulance and rescue unit were assigned to the incident so Firefighters could remove the car’s roof and safely extricate the woman. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro rescue tools to cut the roof supports and remove the roof. The woman was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. All of the children were also transported to CMC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 19. Medic 1, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
