19/November/2017 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “A”
Shift Incident # 17-07958 – Three adults were injured in a
two car MVC at the intersection of Broxton Bridge Highway (US Hwy 601) and
Confederate Highway (SC Highway 651) Sunday afternoon 19-November at 13:50.
One patient received life threatening injuries. Firefighters arrived to find
Broxton Bridge Highway blocked by the damaged cars. One occupant was trapped
inside the wreckage. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance and a medical helicopter
was assigned to the incident. Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to
free the man. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby field to meet with
the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter. Medic 18 treated the man at the scene, then
transferred care to the flight crew, who flew the patient to a Trauma Center
in Charleston. The other two patients were transported to Colleton Medical
Center in Walterboro. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. A
second MVC with entrapment was dispatched while this incident was in
progress.
Engine 23, Squad 23, Medic 18, Medic 26, Rescue 18,
Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain Doug Mixson Jr., served as
