18/December/2017 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-08631 – Two men were injured in a two vehicle, high speed head-on collision in the 8600 block of Green Pond Hwy Monday evening 18-December. At 18:34, 9-1-1 was notified of the accident with several callers providing different information. Callers advised two pickup trucks had struck head-on in a curve and one car was blocking the roadway and the other was overturned in a ditch. One caller reported people were trapped and the car was on fire. The accident was south of Ritter Crossroads near Windy Hill Lane. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was able to exit his vehicle and he went to the over-turned Dodge truck. Nearby residents ran to the scene and assisted the first driver in aiding the other driver in exiting the over-turned pickup truck. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find the roadway blocked. Neither truck was on fire and both occupants had safely exited their trucks. A Labrador in a dog box was ejected from the bad of the Tacoma, but he did not receive any injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the driver of the Dodge, then transported him to Colleton Medical Center. The driver of the Tacoma pickup denied the need for ambulance transportation. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Green Pond Hwy. was blocked for two hours until the wreckage could be cleared from the roadway. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  

Engine 6, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Asst. Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
