02/March/2018 – MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift Incident # 18-01507 – An 85 year old woman was in
critical condition following a two vehicle MVC at the intersection of
Jefferies Hwy and Industrial Road Friday evening 02-March at 17:43.
Witnesses advised the woman’s minivan collided with a north bound pickup
truck as she turned onto Jefferies Hwy. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to
find the mini-van with heavy damage in the middle of the road. The pickup
truck was off the roadway at the wood line. The female driver of the minivan
was found unconscious in the van, suffering from multiple traumatic
injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Crews placed the
C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter on standby at Colleton Medical Center while they
treated the woman and removed her from the van. She was immobilized and
rapidly transported to the helipad at CMC to meet with C.A.R.E. Flight,
transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident
Medical Center in North Charleston. Traffic in both directions of Jefferies
Hwy was closed for about an hour until the cars, debris and fluids could be
removed from the highway. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112
responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander. |
