23/April/2018 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 18-02886 – Three people suffered serious injuries in a two vehicle head-on collision on Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) south of Round O Crossroads Monday evening 23-April. At 19:53, Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to the location during a heavy thunderstorm. This was one of twelve accidents with injuries that occurred in Colleton during the storms over an eight hour period. Engine 9 arrived to find the highway blocked by debris and one passenger car on the southbound side of the roadway. A small pickup truck was off in the woods on the northbound side of the road. Both cars received heavy damage. All occupants were already out of the vehicles and each suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Two additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were dispatched to the scene. A private ambulance drove up on the MVC and began rendering aid to the injured until Fire-Rescue arrived. All three patients were transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The highway was blocked for over 2-1/2 hours, with traffic being detoured to Coolers Dairy Road. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Firefighter D.J. Jacques served as Incident Commander.
