24/April/2018 – Fatal MVC – “A” Shift Incident # 18-02913 - A Smoaks man died from injuries
received in a single car, high speed MVC on Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) south
of Sagebrush Road Tuesday evening 24-April. 9-1-1 was notified of the
collision at 19:30. Medic 7, stationed in Smoaks arrived minutes later to
find the older model Ford Mustang in the woods on the northbound side of the
highway. The vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment and became
airborne, then struck several trees. The impact caused the small car to
break into several pieces, then overturn. The driver was ejected and found
with no signs of life in the wooded area. The Coroner’s Office was notified
and responded to the scene. Traffic on Lowcountry Hwy was eventually closed
due to a large crowd and DOT crews used heavy equipment to remove a tree
that was knocked down, threatening the roadway. The SC Highway Patrol is
investigating the accident. Engine 7, Medic 7, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and Car 112
responded. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served as Incident Commander. |
