01/May/2018 – Three Vehicle MVC – “B” Shift

Incident # 18-03080 – Two people were transported to Colleton Medical Center following a three vehicle, head-on collision in the 1100 block of South Jefferies Blvd Tuesday afternoon 01-May at 17:09. Car 116 (Paramedic QRV) drove up on the accident shortly after it occurred. Two vehicles received heavy damage. Both south bound lanes and one north bound lane of South Jefferies Blvd was blocked, causing traffic to back up in both directions. The accident occurred on one of the bridges through the Great Swamp hampering the only north-south road through town. Car 116 requested two ambulances. Medic 1 is stationed two blocks away and Medics 6 and 19 were at HQ and responded. All three ambulances arrived within minutes and began treating the three injured people. One driver did not require transport to the ED. An adult male suffered a suspected head injury and an adult female received multiple non-life threatening injures. Walterboro Police and Fire units also responded. WPD is investigating the accident. Traffic was tied up for nearly an hour until the accident could be cleared.

Medic 1. Medic 6, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 116 responded. Walterboro Engine 1 & Engine 2 responded. WPD, Sheriff’s Deputies and SC Hwy Patrol also responded.
