17/July/2018 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “C”
Shift Incident # 18-04901 – A 55 yr old Irmo man was
critically injured in a high speed roll-over accident on I-95 at the 44 mile
marker southbound Tuesday morning 17-July at 07:12. The southbound Chevrolet
Suburban dropped off of the left shoulder, over corrected and left the
roadway on the right shoulder. The vehicle slide sideway and flipped over
five times before coming to rest on its side at the wood line. The large SUV
received heavy damage in the crash. Bystanders advised the driver was
unconscious after the collision and trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find the man semi-conscious with life
threatening injuries. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove a portion
of the roof. The man was extricated with full spinal precautions. The
C.A.R.E. Flight medical helicopter was requested and flew to the scene. They
landed on I-95 just south of the accident site. The patient was transferred
to the Flight crew and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The
SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car
107 and Car 112 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident
