| | 22/July/2018 – Near Drowning – “B” Shift Incident # 18-05042 - Fire-Rescue and Cottageville
Police units responded to a residence in the 600 block of Griffith Acres Dr
in the town of Cottageville at 13:54 Sunday 22-July for a near drowning. A 2
year old girl was found unconscious in a swimming pool. 9-1-1 Dispatchers
provided prearrival CPR instructions to the caller. Fire-Rescue Medic 9,
stationed in Cottageville arrived 2 minutes after the 9-1-1 call was
dispatched. Firefighter-Paramedics received the child with no pulse or
respirations. Crews quickly began resuscitative efforts, continuing CPR,
performing airway management, administering IVs and medications. They
rapidly transported the patient to Colleton Medical Center with additional
Firefighter-Paramedics on board. One additional Fire-Rescue unit met them on
the way to the ED to assist with patient care. When Medic 9 arrived at CMC
the patient had regained a pulse. The ED continued efforts with two doctors
and a multitude of staff members. They diligently worked on the girl and she
began making attempts at breathing on her own. Resuscitative efforts were
continued and she was flown to the Children's Hospital at MUSC by the CARE
Flight medical helicopter. The Cottageville Police Dept is investigating the
incident. We are praying for her recovery and for her family. Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 112
responded. Lt. Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander. |
