29/September/2018 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 18-06804 – A 56 year old Walterboro man was killed in a single vehicle MVC in the 1200 block on Academy Road west of Winchester Drive Saturday evening 29-September. The accident was reported at 22:09 after a passerby noticed a headlight on near the woods. The man found an overturned pickup truck in the driveway to the Palmetto Hut. As he searched the scene, he located an adult male’s body in the woods approximately 50 feet from the truck. The accident evidently occurred earlier in the evening but was not found on the dead end road until after 10PM. The engine on the truck was cold. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and found the heavily damaged Toyota pickup truck on it’s side. The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries and had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and transported the man. It appeared the west bound truck failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway, then overturned multiple times before coming to rest on its side. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  

Engine 19, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander.
