Colleton County Fire-Rescue
12/08/2018
08/December/2018 – Shop with Santa’s Heroes Seven members of Fire-Rescue participated with over
twenty other emergency responders and Colleton County DSS to bring a
brighter Christmas to needy children in our community. The annual event is
sponsored by the Walterboro Police Department who spearheads the collection
of donations to purchase the gifts for the children. This year Walterboro
Police, Fire-Rescue, Walterboro Fire Dept. and the Sheriff’s Office
participated. Twenty Nine Children were selected by DSS and were paired up
with a responder at the County parking lot next to the Courthouse. The
children chose to ride in a Law Enforcement or Fire-Rescue vehicle and were
allowed to operate the emergency equipment during their early morning 2-1/2
mile response to Wal-Mart. This year Santa arrived on the C.A.R.E. Flight
medical helicopter, then greeted each child in the parking lot, before
everyone went inside to begin shopping. Each child was provided with a gift
card worth over $200 to buy what they chose. After the shopping spree,
everyone met at Burger King where Cook Enterprises provided breakfast for
the entire group. It was a rewarding event, with many happy children to help
bring in the holiday spirit. |
