27/January/2019 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 19-00607 – A two car, high speed MVC sent three people to the hospital Sunday evening 27-January. At 18:31, two passenger vehicles collided at the intersection of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy17-A) and McDanieltown Road. Initial reports indicated one person was trapped, however the injured person was able to exit the vehicle prior to the arrival of First Responders. Three off duty Fire-Rescue Paramedics who were traveling south on Cottageville Hwy. witnessed the accident and stopped to render aid. Two Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. A GMC envoy was struck in the passenger side injuring a woman and a 12 year old boy. Both were treated at the scene, then transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in Medic 9. The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 19. Traffic in the area of the accident was blocked for about 30 minutes and then down to one lane for another hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter DJ Jacques served as Incident Commander.
