02/August/2019 – Lawnmower Accident – “A” Shift

Incident # 19-05320 – A four year old girl was severely injured when she was reported run over by a riding lawnmower in the 9800 block of Bells Highway (SC Hwy 64). 9-1-1 was notified of the incident at 15:14, Friday afternoon 02-August. Bystanders advised responders the child ran in front of the lawnmower. The child suffered an amputation to one leg and injuries to the other. The grandparents are credited with quick action to control the bleeding which contributed to saving her life. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station # 18 at Bells Crossroads arrived minutes later and applied tourniquets. The patient was rapidly treated at the scene with included IVs and pain medications. A medical helicopter was requested, but could not fly due to poor weather conditions. The child was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 18 with additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board, directly to the Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 18, Medic 7, Medic 18, Car 104, Car 105, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-EMT Chris Sarine served as Incident Commander.
