24/August/2019 – Motorcycle MVC with ejection – “B” Shift

Incident # 19-05905 – A 57 yr old Ruffin man was severely injured in a single vehicle motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon 24-August at 14:56. An alert motorist noticed grass was displaced on the shoulder of Sunrise Road near Yamacraw Dr east of Smoaks. They turned around to investigate and found the man lying semi-conscious at the wood line. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station # 7 in Smoaks arrived minutes later and began treating the man’s injuries. It appeared the west bound three wheeled motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the ditch and entered the woods. The motorcycle collided with several trees, knocking one over as the bike broke in two pieces. The engine was cold indicating the accident had occurred earlier. Responders immobilized the injured man, then transported him emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 7 with additional personnel on board to assist with his care. He was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 7, Medic 7, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
