04/September/2019 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 19-06160 – A Ruffin home suffered substantial damage following a kitchen fire Wednesday evening 04-Septmeber at 21:44. The fire occurred during heavy rains and high winds of the approaching Hurricane Dorian. The mother was awaken by the smoke and found the fire in the kitchen. She was able to get everyone out of the residence before calling 9-1-1. Fire-Rescue was upstaffed due to the approaching storm and had extra personnel on duty. Engine 7 arrived to find heavy smoke visible, with flames coming from two sides of the residence. Firefighters deployed two handlines to the building and gained control of the fire quickly. No injuries were reported during the incident. Fire units were on the scene for over three hours.  

Engine 7, Engine 18, Engine 26, Tender 7, Tender 15, Tender 18, Tender 26, Medic 7, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Battalion 2 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
