30/January/2020 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift Incident # 20-00670 – A 55 year old Ruffin man died
from injuries received in a single car MVC in the 300 block of Sunrise Road
in the Town of Smoaks, Thursday afternoon 30-January. At 12:17, 9-1-1 was
notified of the Red Ford Pickup that left the roadway and struck several
trees. The truck received heavy damage and the driver was not wearing a
seatbelt. He was the only occupant in the truck and received multiple
traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics stationed in Smoaks arrived
minutes later and quickly began treating the man. He was rapidly removed
from the heavily damaged truck and transported emergent to the helipad at
Colleton Medical Center. Medic 7’s crew transferred his care to the Flight
Crew of CARE Flight. He was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital
where he was rushed to surgery. Unfortunately he did not survive his
injuries. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Engine 3, Engine 7, Medic 7, Battalion 1 and Car 112
responded. Lt. David Sauls served as Incident Commander. |
