04/February/2020 – High Speed MVC – “A” Shift

Incident # 20-00784 – A two vehicle head-on collision sent three people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon 04-February. At 15:25, a Mercury Mountaineer traveling north on Cottageville Hwy struck a southbound Buick LaSabre  head-on in the 1400 block of Cottageville Highway (US Hwy 17-A) near the pole yard. The LaSabre suffered heavy damage and the 59 yr old male driver was initially trapped in the wreckage, suffering from multiple traumatic injuries. A female passenger received non-life threatening injuries. Crews were able to free the man with hand tools. Both patients were quickly treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital. The 70 yr old female driver of the Mountaineer received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 1. Traffic on Cottageville Hwy in the area of the accident was down to one lane for about an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Tender 27, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-EMT Shane Weber served as Incident Commander.
