05/15/2020 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift Incident # 20-03197 – A Summerville man was injured
after his Jeep struck a utility trailer and overturned in the 800 block of
Black Street Friday morning 15-May at 11:18. Units arrived to find the car
laying on the passenger side in the roadway. The adult male driver was
trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man while
he was still in the vehicle as other crewmembers worked to remove the roof.
Cribbing and Holmatro V-Struts were used to stabilize the vehicle and
Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools and a reciprocating saw were used to remove
a portion of the roof to gain access to the driver. He was wearing a
seatbelt. Firefighter-Paramedics used a KED device to immobilize him in the
driver’s seat, then removed the man from the car. He was transported in
stable condition to Colleton Medical Center. The Walterboro Police Dept is
investigating the crash. Engine 1, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 112 and
Walterboro Fire Dept responded. WFD Captain Zack Harrison served as Incident
