07/June/2020 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift Incident # 20-03720 – One man was critically injured
and a second man died from injuries received in a single vehicle accident in
the 2500 block of Possum Corner Road Sunday morning 07-June at 00:06. The
men were traveling southbound on Possum Corner Rd in a 2007 Ford Crown
Victoria when the car dropped off of the shoulder in the 2500 block. The
driver overcorrected and the car slide sideways into a large pine tree
causing heavy damage to the passenger side. Neither occupant was wearing a
seatbelt. A 36 yr. old male received multiple traumatic injuries and was
found unconscious in the car. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating him in
the vehicle and called for a medical helicopter. He was quickly extricated
and moved to Fire-Rescue Medic 6, however the man went into cardiac arrest
shortly after leaving the scene. Medic 6 diverted to Colleton Medical
Center. Crews diligently worked to resuscitate the man and regained pulses
enroute to the ED, unfortunately he did not survive. The 29 year old man was
found semi-conscious and also suffered multiple traumatic injuries. He was
treated at the scene, then rapidly transported in Medic 1 to a field to meet
with the CARE Flight helicopter. He was transferred to the Flight Crew, then
flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. Possum Corner Road was closed for over 4
hours while the SC Hwy Patrol conducted their investigation. Engine 6, Engine 22, Medic 1, Medic 6, Rescue 1,
Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Captain John Schneider served as
