07/Sept/2020 – MVC with Ejection – “A” Shift

Incident # 20-06141 – A 26 yr. old Ruffin man was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 6900 block of Ruffin Road Monday evening 07-Sept. At 21:15, 9-1-1 received a report of an over-turned car in the woods at this location. Medic 18, stationed at Bells Crossroads arrived about 8 minutes later and found the Cadillac on it’s roof at the wood line. The occupant was found semi-conscious in the ditch approximately 20 feet from the car. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man for multiple injuries and requested the CARE Flight helicopter be placed on standby. The patient was transported emergent from the scene to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with CARE Flight. He was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston with critical injuries. Evidence at the scene indicted the vehicle was traveling west bound at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. The car entered the ditch, struck a concrete culvert pipe and flipped over at least four times before coming to rest on its roof. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the car. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 26, Medic 18 and Car 112 responded. Captain John Schneider served as Incident Commander.
