10/October/2020 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "A" Shift

Incident # 20-06935 - A teenager was fatally shot in the Johnsville area north of Smoaks Saturday evening 10-October. At 20:22, Fire-Rescue units and Sheriff's Deputies were sent to the area of the 32600 block of Lowcountry Hwy., (US Hwy. 21) near the Colleton/Bamberg County line for a report of a person being shot. Initial reports were the person was taken to that residence from another location. While enroute, responding units were advised a vehicle was transporting the patient to Fire Station # 7 in the Town of Smoaks. Fire-Rescue Medic 7 stopped at Lowcountry Hwy and Gar Road and met with the car. An unconscious 17 yr old male was found in the back seat of the vehicle. He was not breathing. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly moved him to the ambulance and began medical treatment. The youth possibly received several gunshot wounds to the upper body. Medic 7 transported him emergent to Colleton Medical Center, controlling his airway, bleeding control, administering IV fluids, medications and whole blood. Fire-Rescue Medic 26 intercepted Medic 7 enroute to the ED and provided additional personnel to assist with patient care. After arrival at CMC, the ED staffed continued efforts to revive the patient, but he did not survive his injuries. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case. A second patient, an adult male, was transported by Medic 18 from a residence on Drain Road with minor injuries received from the same incident. 

Engine 7, Medic 7, Medic 18, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
