05-November-2020 - Fatal MVC with Double Entrapment - "A" Shift

Incident # 20-00782 - A 29 year old male driver was injured and trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle after the northbound SUV left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned in the 6000 block of Green Pond Hwy. (SC Hwy 303) Thursday morning 05-November at 00:26. The Chevrolet Tahoe received heavy damage in the collision. The driver had been unconscious following the impact. He suffered a head injury and other multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics used various tools to remove the windshield and other items to extricate the man from the vehicle. After extricating the driver, crews discovered a second victim inside the overturned vehicle. The 25 year old male passenger was also trapped in the wreckage and had no signs of life. A second Fire-Rescue Ambulance and the Coroner's Office were requested. Medic 1 transported the driver emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter. He was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital. Once the Coroner completed his investigation, Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools and saws to extricate the passenger from the SUV. He was transported by the Coroner's Office. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident COmmander.
