03/December/2020 - MVC with entrapment and Air Evac - "A" Shift

Incident # 20-8285 - An adult male received suspected life threatening injuries in a single car MVC in the 300 block of Mount Carmel Road Thursday morning 03-December at 07:50. The northbound Ford Fusion crossed to the south bound shoulder and overturned trapping the male passenger. Bystanders reported the man was unconscious following the accident. Firefighter-Paramedics removed the windshield, entered the car and began treating the man inside the vehicle, while other crew members stabilized the car. They then used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove a portion of the roof to extricate the man. He was transported emergent from the scene in Medic 26 to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter at Colleton Medical Center. The patient was transferred to the flight crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston. The adult female driver was transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Sheriff's Deputies rerouted traffic between Bells Hwy and Quail Drive for 45 minutes until the accident was cleared.  

Engine 26, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 107, Car 112, Car 118 and Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
