06/December/2020 - Fatal MVC w/double ejection & Air Evac - "C" Shift

Incident # 20-08379 - One teenager was killed and a second was seriously injured in a single car MVC on Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) just west of Scuffletown Road Sunday morning 06-December at 01:14. Another motorist found the vehicle in the ditch and notified 9-1-1. Fire-Rescue Medic 18 arrived to find the car upright with heavy damage. The vehicle had been traveling eastbound at a high rate speed when it failed to negotiate a curve. The car traveled a substantial distance off of the roadway before it struck an embankment and flipped over multiple times. The 18 year old male driver was ejected and found on the ground near the back of the car. He was unconscious following the accident, but regained consciousness. He advised Firefighter-Paramedics that another person was in the car with him. The crew began treating his multiple injuries and requested one additional ambulance, Engine and the CARE Flight medical helicopter to respond to the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics searched the dark highway and the wooded area around the car and located the body of the 19 year old male passenger approximately 175 feet from the car. He had no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and also responded. The driver was transported from the scene to a nearby field at Sniders Crossroads. CARE Flight landed in the field. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Sniders Hwy. in the area of the accident was closed for four hours while the SC Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. 

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
