08/December/2020 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 20-08423 - A Springtown family lost their home in an early morning structure fire Tuesday morning 08-December. The fire at 7345 Augusta Hwy was reported to 9-1-1 at 01:28, but may have been burning for a longer period of time. The fire appears to have started in the area of a space heater. The family was awakened to the smoke and flames and were able to safely exit the building. There was some delay in locating someone to call for help. Fire-Rescue units arrived shortly after the dispatch and found the single wide mobile home fully involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two hand lines to combat the fire. They had the bulk of the flames knocked down within 15 minutes, but were on the scene performing overhaul for another 2-1/2 hours. The structure was completely destroyed and the family lost all of their belongings. The Red Cross is assisting the family and Fire-Rescue transported them to Walterboro to meet with a Red Cross representative who temporarily placed them in a motel.

Engine 7, Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 5, Tender 7, Tender 17, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 7, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
