13/December/2020 - MVC with Air Evac - "A" Shift

Incident # 20-08562 - A 33 yr  old male received multiple injuries after the vehicle he was driving struck a large stump in approx. the 4600 block of Ritter Road just west of Ivanhoe Creek. The Accura sedan was traveling east on Ritter Road when it failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck a large stump, which was uprooted and pulled completely out of the ground, continued East and struck a small tree breaking it into several pieces before coming to rest in the ditch near Ivanhoe Creek. The location provided by both callers to 9-1-1 was incorrect. Responders were sent to Green Pond Hwy about a mile away. When nothing was found on Green Pond Hwy units began searching the area and located the accident on Ritter Road. Bystanders had pulled the male from the car and up the embankment. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man's injuries with assistance from the bystanders who were very helpful. A medical helicopter was requested. The man was transported to a nearby field to meet with C.A.R.E. Flight. He was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. 

Engine 6, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain John Schneider served as Incident Commander.
