Incident # 21-00672 - A 41 year old Oakman Branch man died from injuries received after he was struck by two cars in the 11500 block of Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) Sunday evening 24-January. He was walking near his home when he was struck by the first vehicle. Family members heard the impact and ran outside to see what happened. The man was laying in the roadway when a second vehicle approached. According to witnesses, a family member attempted to flag down the second car on the dark stretch of rural highway, but the car also struck the man. Both vehicles fled the scene. The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Fire-Rescue units arrived about 9 minutes later and found the man to be deceased. Augusta Hwy in the area of the accident was closed for about 4-1/2 hours while the SC Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. Coroner Richard Harvey also responded to the scene.
Engine 5, Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain Ethan Shieder served as Incident Commander.
