08/February/2021 - Fatal Motorcycle MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-01001 - An adult male received fatal injuries and an adult female was critically injured when the motorcycle they were riding struck a hog in the 12800 block of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy. 63) Monday evening 08-February at 19:32. The motorcycle was traveling northbound on the dark stretch of rural highway when it collided with the large black animal. Both occupants on the motorcycle were thrown into the highway, with the male landing in the southbound lane. A southbound passenger car struck the man after he fell from the motorcycle. Fire-Rescue units arrived about ten minutes later and found the man to be deceased and the woman with critical traumatic injuries, including a head injury. Firefighters blocked both travel lanes to secure the scene for Law Enforcement. They treated the woman and requested a medical helicopter. C.A.R.E. Flight responded and landed in a field at Sniders Crossroads. The woman was transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the landing zone with additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisting with her care. She was transferred to the Flight Crew. Advanced airway treatment was necessary to secure her airway. She was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The stretch of Sniders Hwy. was closed for about three hours while the Coroner and SC Hwy Patrol conducted their investigations.
Engine 15, Medic 1, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Lt. Jared Polk served as Incident Commander.
